BEES & WASPS

Honey BeeHoney Bees can expand into a colony of several thousand individuals, and will act aggressively when they feel their nest is threatened. Even walking in front of the entrance can be enough to upset them. A honey bee colony in a house wall can cause major problems. The bees can chew through the wall and fly inside.

Their storage of large amounts of honey invites other bees and wasps. Their detritus (e.g., dead bees, shedded larval skins, wax caps from combs and other material) attracts beetles and moths.

WaspWasps and their larger cousins, Hornets, build their nests in a variety of places, mainly in holes in the ground, or in voids in buildings or in trees. The population of a typical nest can quickly grow to several hundred individuals who will attack any intruder that they feel is a threat.

They can sting with impunity, as unlike bees they can recover their sting and use it again and again. Not the sort of lodgers that you would prefer to be sharing your house.
